Bears’ rights
Filed in category: Bears on the WebOriginal post, October 2006
This is the first post in a new category about bears in web sites and blogs.

Network bears
I like the web site of two intelligent and clear-thinking bears, Spence and Ted. It has rules about how humans should behave with bears, including “Teddy Bears are omnipotent and their word is final on all matters.” The site has pictures of their travels all over the world - I avoid travelling if I can, but they have a riotous good time.
There is a crowd of travelling bears on an Irish web site. (Perhaps I am missing out and should be more adventurous?) They are also concerned about bear welfare and have a constitution of Toy Animals’ Rights, including the “right to be treated with fairness and respect and to be recognized for the important work they do”.
I agree completely with these rules and rights. But I am shocked that rules should be necessary!
Update, March 2007
I find to my disappointment that the link to Spence and Ted’s site is now broken. I never met the bears in person but I feel I’ve lost some friends.
